UL Panel Fabricator

QualiTEQ is a full-service Underwriters Laboratory (UL508A and UL698A) listed Industrial Control Enclosure fabrication shop capable of delivering industrial control panels of all types and sizes. Position Summary
Panel Fabricator is responsible for the assembly, wiring, and testing of electrical control panels and related components for custom commercial projects. Fabricators work closely with project managers, engineers, and other fabrication team members to ensure the accurate and timely completion of panels that meet both client specifications and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Specification & Drawing Interpretation:
  • Reads and interprets technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints to understand electrical panel design and assembly requirements
  • Verifies components with the bill of materials to ensure accuracy
  • Works closely with electrical engineers, designers, and other team members to ensure the panel design is accurately executed.
  • Provides input or suggestions regarding design improvements or cost-saving measures.
  • Installs electrical components per assembly drawings

Panel Fabrication and Assembly:
  • Dimensionally lays out panels and mount devices using various methods
  • Assembles electrical control panels, including panel doors, knock-out/cuts, cooling/ventilation systems as required
  • Installs components, including the installation of components such as circuit breakers, relays, transformers, PLCs, displays, actuators, and terminals
  • Ensures correct placement, fitting, cooling, and grounding of all components
  • Mounts din-rail, Panduit, electrical devices and wiring within panels as per specifications
  • Measures, uses tools, interprets visual aids and performs simple shop math

Wiring and Terminations:
  • Wires panels in accordance with provided point to point diagrams
  • Lays out and terminates all control type components within panels, ensuring proper connections and adherence to UL safety standards
  • Performs proper torque testing of all terminations
  • Ensures proper fusing per project drawings and specifications
  • Performs detailed wiring tasks, ensuring accurate color coding, labeling, and routing of wires.
  • Neatly routes wire bundles and cabling
  • Create and maintain accurate records of designs, parts used, assembly steps, and testing results
  • Label and tag electrical components and wires for ease of identification and future maintenance

Testing and Quality Control:
  • Conduct electrical and functional testing of fabricated panels to ensure your work meets design specifications and safety standards
  • Troubleshoots and corrects any wiring or component issues during the testing phase
  • Cross-check work with team members to ensure accuracy and compliance with all required specifications.

    • Measuring knock-out placements
  • Modifies or reworks existing panels as required for upgrades, repairs, or customer specifications

Compliance with UL and other Standards:
  • Ensures all panels meet relevant electrical codes and safety regulations (e.g., NEC, UL, IEC)
  • Ensures all fabrications meet applicable project specifications, standards and drawings
  • Remain updated on changes in standards and implement those changes in panel fabrication

Safety Shop Floor Duties:
  • Follow strict safety protocols to prevent electrical hazards, ensuring proper grounding, insulation, and protection during the fabrication process
  • Prepare fabricated panels for shipment, ensuring safe packaging and labeling according to delivery requirements
  • Ensure that all shipping documentation includes compliance information and safety guidelines for delivery and installation
  • Perform other duties as required by shift lead or other managers
  • Take instruction from your shift leader on best work practices / procedures for meeting required goals
  • Report all design or material non-conformances to your supervisor immediately upon identification
  • Assist other Shop Staff as required
  • Demonstrate the ability to be trained on forklifts
